Search intent

How Homeowners Search for Flooring Companies on Google

Not every search deserves the same bid. I separate Flooring Companies searches by intent, because each type converts differently, costs differently and needs a different ad and landing page.

01

Urgent & Ready to Book

People who need help now. These usually deserve the highest bids, call-focused ads and ad schedules that match when you can actually answer the phone.

“flooring installers near me”, “flooring store near me” and “water damaged floor replacement”. Buyers ready to measure or visit a showroom are the core target.

02

Specific Service Searches

Searches for one service or treatment. They are usually the best mix of volume, intent and customer value, so each one gets its own ad group and landing page.

“hardwood floor installation”, “luxury vinyl plank installation”, “tile installation”, “hardwood refinishing” and “commercial flooring”. Each material gets its own ad group and page.

03

Price & Research Searches

People comparing costs and options. Valuable when your ads and pages answer their questions clearly, wasteful when they lead to a generic homepage.

“LVP installation cost per square foot”, “hardwood vs LVP” and “flooring financing”. Free measurements and financing convert these buyers.

04

Comparison & Brand Searches

Searches for reviews, “best” lists and specific providers, including your own business name, which competitors may already be bidding on.

“best flooring company near me”, big-box comparisons and your brand.

Costs & benchmarks

What Google Ads Costs for Flooring Companies

Clicks in some industries look expensive until you compare them with what a new customer is worth. These are the numbers I look at before recommending a budget.

Typical cost per click

About $8.33
WordStream’s 2026 search benchmarks put the median for Home & Home Improvement at $8.33 per click. Hardwood and LVP installation terms vary by market.

Typical cost per lead

About $91
The same 2026 data puts the median cost per lead for that category at $90.92. Whole-home flooring jobs justify higher lead costs.

Value of one new customer

$3,000–$20,000+
Single rooms are a few thousand dollars; whole-home installations can reach five figures.

How I Work Out a Profitable Cost per Click

The real question is not whether clicks are expensive. It is how much you can afford to pay for a click and still make money. I start with three numbers: what a new customer is worth, how many leads turn into customers, and how many clicks turn into leads. Multiply them together and you get a break-even cost per click, which tells us which keywords are worth buying and which ones are not.

Illustrative example: with a $6,000 average job, 30% of in-home measures sold and 7% of clicks booking a measure, each click is worth $6,000 × 0.30 × 0.07 = $126 at break-even.

Campaign structure

The Google Ads Structure I Build for Flooring Companies

A good account is built around how your homeowners search and how your business makes money, not around a one-size-fits-all template.

01

Search Campaigns Built Around Services

Each high-value service gets its own campaign or ad group, its own ads and its own landing page, so budget follows the services that make you money and you can see exactly what each one costs.

Separate campaigns for hardwood, LVP and laminate, tile, carpet, refinishing and commercial flooring, plus showroom visit campaigns.

02

Local Services Ads Where You Qualify

For many home-service and professional categories, Google shows Local Services Ads with a Google Guaranteed or Google Screened badge above regular ads, charged per lead instead of per click. When you qualify, I plan them alongside Search rather than instead of it.

Flooring is available in Local Services Ads in some markets. Search campaigns with free-measure offers and showroom location assets usually perform best.

03

Call-First Ads & Map Visibility

For businesses where customers prefer to phone, I prioritize call assets, call-only formats where they fit, location assets and accurate business hours, so ads only push calls when someone can answer.

04

Remarketing & Automated Campaigns, Used Carefully

Remarketing and Performance Max can help, but only once conversion tracking is reliable and the basics are profitable. Otherwise they spend quickly on low-quality traffic.

Keywords

Keywords I Target for Flooring Companies, and the Ones I Block

Choosing what not to pay for is just as important as choosing what to bid on. Negative keywords are added on day one, not after the budget is gone.

High-Intent Keywords I Prioritize

Searches that show a real need, a specific service and a location are usually where profitable campaigns start.

  • flooring company + city
  • hardwood floor installation
  • luxury vinyl plank installation
  • tile installation contractor
  • hardwood floor refinishing
  • carpet installation
  • flooring store near me
  • commercial flooring contractor
  • waterproof flooring
  • free in-home flooring estimate

Negative Keywords I Add From Day One

Job seekers, DIY researchers, students and people looking for free help can drain a budget without producing a single customer.

  • flooring installer jobs
  • DIY flooring installation
  • flooring for sale online only
  • flooring samples free (if not offered)
  • flooring calculators
  • floor cleaning products
  • flooring wholesale
  • laminate cutters and tools
  • vehicle floor mats
  • floor plans

Ads & landing pages

Ad Copy and Landing Pages That Convert for Flooring Companies

Flooring buyers often start by researching materials, so many clicks come from people months away from buying. Separating material research from ready-to-buy searches keeps the budget on real projects.

Ad messages that work

  • Material-specific ads: hardwood, luxury vinyl plank, tile and carpet, each with its own page.
  • Free in-home measure: a strong offer for buyers who are ready.
  • Showroom visits: for businesses with a showroom, an ad that invites a visit.
  • Installation included: pricing that includes installation, stated clearly.

What the landing page needs

  • Material pages with price ranges per square foot.
  • Photos of installed floors in local homes.
  • Showroom hours and location.
  • A form to book a measurement.

Common mistakes

Google Ads Mistakes I See Flooring Companies Make Most Often

When I audit Flooring Companies accounts, the same few problems usually explain most of the wasted spend.

  • Paying for DIY and material shoppers. Many want to buy materials, not installation.
  • No free-measure offer. Measures are the natural next step.
  • Ignoring showroom visits. Track store visits and calls.
  • One page for all materials. Hardwood and LVP buyers ask different questions.
  • No financing message. Whole-home jobs need payment options.
  • Not tracking sold jobs. Optimize for revenue, not clicks.

Policies & trust

Compliance, Policies & Trust Signals for Flooring Companies

Some industries face Google Ads policy restrictions, advertiser verification or professional advertising rules. Getting this wrong can mean disapproved ads, limited reach or a suspended account.

Rules That Affect Your Ads

Flooring is not restricted. Contractor licensing rules vary by state, and financing or “free installation” offers must be accurate.

Trust Signals Homeowners Look For

Showroom, licensed and insured installers, warranties, reviews, project photos and free in-home measurements.

Seasonality

When Homeowners Search, and How Budgets Should Follow

Demand for most industries rises and falls through the year. A flat monthly budget usually overspends in quiet months and runs out when demand is highest.

Demand peaks in late winter through spring and again before the holidays, as homeowners prepare to host.

Measurement

What I Track for Flooring Companies, Beyond Clicks

Clicks and impressions do not pay the bills. I set up tracking so you can see which campaigns and keywords produce real homeowners.

01

Qualified Calls

Calls from ads are tracked by duration and source, so short and accidental calls are not counted as leads.

02

Forms & Bookings

Form submissions and online bookings are tracked as conversions, separated from page views and button clicks.

03

Real Business Outcomes

Where possible, leads are matched to jobs, appointments or sales, so bidding can learn from the leads that actually become customers.

Measures booked, showroom visits and jobs sold, synced from flooring software such as RollMaster or Measure Square where possible.
