Case studies
A closer look at three client campaigns: where they started, what I changed, and what the numbers looked like afterwards.
Coach · Online course
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This coach needed to sell an online course and grow his personal brand. I built a conversion-focused funnel and ran strategic ads to it, turning a $2,773.25 investment into $15,267.29 in sales.
Non-profit · Fundraising
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This non-profit was losing money on its fundraising ads when they brought me in. In the first month, $970 in ad spend raised $6,422, and the wider fundraising effort went on to generate more than $600K that year.
High-ticket services

Revenue
This business sells high-ticket services and products. I rebuilt the ad strategy around stronger creatives and smarter retargeting, then tightened spend and targeting, turning $2.9K into $20,472.10 in revenue.
Local market
Advertising conditions are not identical across Alabama. Businesses competing in a major metropolitan area can face a different paid-search environment from companies serving smaller cities, suburban markets, or rural areas. The strategy should reflect those differences rather than treating an entire state as one uniform advertising market.
Alabama has about 5.19 million residents spread across several mid-sized metros rather than one dominant city. Birmingham, Huntsville, Montgomery and Mobile each have distinct economies, and the Gulf Coast around Baldwin County behaves differently again.
Huntsville’s aerospace and defense economy, Birmingham’s healthcare and banking sectors, and growing automotive manufacturing across the state create strong demand for B2B and professional services. Meanwhile, rural counties rely on agriculture, small towns and long drives to reach services.
Weather is a constant factor. Alabama sees hot, humid summers, frequent severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in spring and fall, and hurricane exposure along the coast, all of which drive spikes in roofing, HVAC, tree removal and storm restoration searches.
I work with Alabama businesses remotely rather than from a local storefront.
The point is simple: a search in Birmingham and a search in Mobile can deserve different bids, budgets and messages, and the account should be built to reflect that.
Businesses operating in major metro areas often face greater advertiser density because more companies are competing for the same high-intent searches.
Smaller markets may have different challenges.
Search volume can be lower, service areas can be larger, and campaigns may need to balance efficient geographic coverage with enough search demand to produce useful data.
The correct strategy depends on the market.
That is why statewide Google Ads management should analyze performance geographically instead of assuming every city deserves the same investment.
What gets in the way
Most underperforming Alabama campaigns I audit struggle with some combination of the following.
A roofing company advertising in Birmingham or Huntsville competes with established local firms and storm chasers who arrive after severe weather. The same company targeting Dothan or Florence will usually face fewer advertisers, but less volume and longer travel times to jobs.
A company may technically serve all of Alabama while still having areas where customers are more valuable, easier to reach, or operationally practical.
Campaigns can be segmented around:
Alabama has two active storm seasons, spring and late fall, when severe thunderstorms, hail and tornadoes create sudden demand for roofing, tree service and restoration. Summer heat drives AC repair searches, and hurricane season from June to November affects Mobile and Baldwin County most.
“emergency plumber near me”
“roof repair Birmingham”
“dentist in Huntsville”
“business attorney Mobile”
often reveal significantly stronger commercial intent than broad informational queries.
A local Google Ads campaign should be built around that distinction.
City by city
A closer look at the Alabama markets where most local search demand is concentrated.
Birmingham is Alabama’s largest metro, with roughly 1.2 million residents and a strong healthcare, banking and education economy anchored by UAB. Suburbs such as Hoover, Vestavia Hills and Mountain Brook have high-value households.
Competition is strongest here for legal, medical and home-service keywords. Campaigns usually perform better when suburbs are separated from the city core, because incomes, home ages and buying behavior vary widely within the metro.
Huntsville has become one of the fastest-growing metros in the Southeast, driven by aerospace, defense, NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, Redstone Arsenal and a growing technology workforce.
Many residents are newcomers with good incomes, which drives demand for new homes, home services, healthcare and professional services. They rely heavily on search to find providers, so strong reviews and clear service areas are especially effective.
Mobile is Alabama’s port city, and neighboring Baldwin County, including Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, is one of the fastest-growing areas in the state, with heavy tourism and second-home ownership.
Campaigns here should separate year-round local services from beach tourism, and they should be ready for hurricane-related demand. Roofing, restoration and insurance-related searches can surge quickly after storms.
Montgomery, the state capital, has an economy built on government, the military at Maxwell Air Force Base and manufacturing, including a large automotive plant.
Search volume is moderate and competition is lower than in Birmingham or Huntsville, which can make Montgomery an efficient market for businesses with strong local reputations and well-structured campaigns.
I can also help businesses targeting customers outside Alabama’s largest metro areas, in markets such as Tuscaloosa, Auburn–Opelika, Dothan, Florence, Gadsden and Decatur.
A smaller market does not automatically mean an easier campaign.
Lower search volume, larger service territories, and fewer daily conversion opportunities can make good targeting and measurement even more important.
Alabama campaign plan
Alabama runs on Central Time, but its biggest markets are spread out and two of them share customers with neighboring states. A single statewide campaign usually lets Birmingham soak up most of the budget while Huntsville and the Gulf Coast get whatever is left.
Industry strategy
Paid-search demand in Alabama follows the local economy: aerospace and defense growth, hot humid summers and frequent severe weather. Here is how I approach the industries that benefit most.
Severe thunderstorms, hail, tornadoes and hurricanes make Alabama a year-round market for roofing, tree removal and restoration services. Demand can spike overnight after a storm passes.
What I focus on: weather-responsive budgets, separating emergency storm searches from planned replacements, ad copy that builds trust against out-of-town storm chasers, and tracking calls that turn into inspections.
Huntsville’s aerospace and defense cluster supports engineering firms, contractors, suppliers and technical service providers, many competing for specialized contracts.
What I focus on: highly specific B2B keywords, exclusion of job-seeker traffic, professional ad copy built around capabilities and clearances, and tracking qualified leads and RFQs.
Gulf Shores and Orange Beach attract large numbers of visitors and second-home owners, supporting rentals, restaurants, charters and attractions.
What I focus on: reaching travelers searching from feeder states, scaling budgets ahead of spring and summer, and tracking direct bookings to reduce reliance on booking platforms.

Questions
Competition varies significantly by industry and location.
Birmingham and Huntsville are the most competitive parts of Alabama for legal, healthcare and home-service keywords, and storm-related categories can become very competitive after severe weather. Smaller metros and rural counties usually have fewer advertisers and lower costs per click.
A statewide average can hide major differences between markets.
That is why I prefer evaluating the actual keywords, cities, services, and competitors relevant to your business.
In Alabama I see consistent Google Ads demand from roofing and storm restoration companies, HVAC contractors, tree services, law firms, dental and medical practices, home builders, aerospace and defense suppliers, and Gulf Coast tourism businesses.
They share a common pattern: urgent or high-value needs and customers who search Google first.
That depends on where customers are located and where your business can realistically serve them.
For some businesses, statewide targeting makes sense.
For others, separating Birmingham, Huntsville, and other priority areas provides better budget control.
They can be, especially when a larger number of advertisers compete for the same commercial searches.
However, cost per click alone does not determine profitability.
A more expensive market can still make sense if:
Yes.
Smaller markets can still contain strong commercial search demand.
The campaign may simply need a different strategy around:
