Case studies
A closer look at three client campaigns: where they started, what I changed, and what the numbers looked like afterwards.
Coach · Online course
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This coach needed to sell an online course and grow his personal brand. I built a conversion-focused funnel and ran strategic ads to it, turning a $2,773.25 investment into $15,267.29 in sales.
Non-profit · Fundraising
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This non-profit was losing money on its fundraising ads when they brought me in. In the first month, $970 in ad spend raised $6,422, and the wider fundraising effort went on to generate more than $600K that year.
High-ticket services
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This business sells high-ticket services and products. I rebuilt the ad strategy around stronger creatives and smarter retargeting, then tightened spend and targeting, turning $2.9K into $20,472.10 in revenue.
Local market
Advertising conditions are not identical across Mississippi. Businesses competing in a major metropolitan area can face a different paid-search environment from companies serving smaller cities, suburban markets, or rural areas. The strategy should reflect those differences rather than treating an entire state as one uniform advertising market.
Mississippi has about 2.95 million residents and no single dominant metro. The Jackson area is the largest market, followed by the Gulf Coast around Gulfport and Biloxi, DeSoto County in the Memphis suburbs, and regional centers such as Hattiesburg, Tupelo and Oxford.
Much of the state is rural, and costs per click are often lower than in neighboring states. That makes Google Ads attractive, but it also means search volume can be thin, so campaigns have to be structured carefully to learn from limited data.
Weather is a major driver. Hot, humid summers, severe spring storms and tornadoes, and hurricane exposure on the coast create recurring demand for HVAC, roofing, tree removal and restoration services.
This page is not a claim that I run a local office in Mississippi. I work remotely.
What matters is that Jackson, Gulfport and the rest of the state are planned as different markets instead of one blended campaign, so you can see what each area actually returns.
Businesses operating in major metro areas often face greater advertiser density because more companies are competing for the same high-intent searches.
Smaller markets may have different challenges.
Search volume can be lower, service areas can be larger, and campaigns may need to balance efficient geographic coverage with enough search demand to produce useful data.
The correct strategy depends on the market.
That is why statewide Google Ads management should analyze performance geographically instead of assuming every city deserves the same investment.
What gets in the way
When I review Mississippi accounts, the same handful of problems tends to explain most of the wasted spend.
A home-service company in DeSoto County competes with Memphis-based advertisers who include the Mississippi suburbs in their coverage, while a company in the Delta may face almost no paid competition but very few daily searches.
A company may technically serve all of Mississippi while still having areas where customers are more valuable, easier to reach, or operationally practical.
Campaigns can be segmented around:
Mississippi has an active severe-weather season in spring, with tornadoes and hail driving roofing and tree-service demand, a long, hot summer that keeps AC searches high, and hurricane season along the Gulf Coast from June through November. Casino and beach tourism on the coast peaks in spring and summer.
“emergency plumber near me”
“roof repair Jackson”
“dentist in Gulfport”
“business attorney Hattiesburg”
often reveal significantly stronger commercial intent than broad informational queries.
A local Google Ads campaign should be built around that distinction.
City by city
Four parts of Mississippi that show why one statewide campaign rarely fits every market:
The Jackson metro, including Madison, Ridgeland, Brandon and Flowood, is the state’s government, healthcare and business center. The suburbs have grown while the city itself has lost population.
That makes suburban targeting especially important. Campaigns that focus on Madison and Rankin counties often see higher-value customers and better conversion rates than broad metro targeting.
The Mississippi Gulf Coast combines casino resorts, beach tourism, shipbuilding, military installations and a growing retirement population.
Campaigns should separate tourism and hospitality from local home services, and roofing and restoration businesses need to be ready for hurricane-related demand on short notice.
Hattiesburg is a regional hub for healthcare, the University of Southern Mississippi and the military at Camp Shelby, serving a large surrounding rural area.
Search volume is moderate, and many customers drive in from smaller towns, so radius targeting should reflect how far people are willing to travel for a given service.
DeSoto County, including Southaven, Olive Branch and Horn Lake, is one of the fastest-growing parts of the state and functions as part of the Memphis metro. Further east, Tupelo and Oxford are growing regional centers.
Businesses here must decide whether to compete in the Memphis market. For many, focusing on the Mississippi suburbs with clear local messaging is more efficient than bidding across the whole metro.
I can also help businesses targeting customers outside Mississippi’s largest metro areas, in markets such as Tupelo, Oxford, Meridian, Columbus, Starkville, Vicksburg and the Delta communities.
A smaller market does not automatically mean an easier campaign.
Lower search volume, larger service territories, and fewer daily conversion opportunities can make good targeting and measurement even more important.
Mississippi campaign plan
Mississippi is on Central Time, with lower average click costs than most of the country. Two of its busiest areas are effectively suburbs of out-of-state cities.
Industry strategy
In Mississippi, a hot climate, frequent severe weather and a largely rural, cost-efficient market shape which industries get the most value from paid search. These are the ones I see most often.
Tornadoes, hail and hurricanes make storm recovery a recurring industry in Mississippi, with demand for roofing, tree removal, debris cleanup and restoration spiking after each event.
What I focus on: weather-responsive budgets, separate campaigns for emergency and planned work, trust-building ad copy against out-of-state storm chasers, and call tracking for booked inspections.
The Gulf Coast and river towns attract visitors for gaming, beaches, fishing and events, supporting hotels, restaurants, charters and attractions.
What I focus on: targeting travelers searching from nearby states such as Louisiana, Alabama and Tennessee, timing budgets for peak seasons and events, and tracking direct bookings.
Mississippi’s large agricultural sector supports equipment dealers, farm services, land clearing, irrigation and rural contractors.
What I focus on: niche keywords for specialized services, wide but realistic geographic targeting, call-focused ads, and tracking qualified inquiries.

Questions
Competition varies significantly by industry and location.
Competition in Mississippi is generally lower than in surrounding states. The Jackson suburbs, DeSoto County and the Gulf Coast are the most competitive areas, especially for legal, healthcare and home-service keywords, while rural counties often have few advertisers.
A statewide average can hide major differences between markets.
That is why I prefer evaluating the actual keywords, cities, services, and competitors relevant to your business.
In Mississippi I see consistent Google Ads demand from HVAC and roofing contractors, tree services, personal injury law firms, healthcare practices, home builders, coastal tourism businesses and agricultural service providers.
These businesses benefit because their customers search with urgent needs and clear intent.
That depends on where customers are located and where your business can realistically serve them.
For some businesses, statewide targeting makes sense.
For others, separating Jackson, Gulfport, and other priority areas provides better budget control.
They can be, especially when a larger number of advertisers compete for the same commercial searches.
However, cost per click alone does not determine profitability.
A more expensive market can still make sense if:
Yes.
Smaller markets can still contain strong commercial search demand.
The campaign may simply need a different strategy around:
