Google Ads Expert for Fence Companies Who Matches Ads to Real Services

Search intent

How Homeowners Search for Fence Companies on Google

Not every search deserves the same bid. I separate Fence Companies searches by intent, because each type converts differently, costs differently and needs a different ad and landing page.

01

Urgent & Ready to Book

People who need help now. These usually deserve the highest bids, call-focused ads and ad schedules that match when you can actually answer the phone.

“fence installation near me”, “fence repair after storm” and “dog fence installation”. New homeowners and pet owners often need quick installs.

02

Specific Service Searches

Searches for one service or treatment. They are usually the best mix of volume, intent and customer value, so each one gets its own ad group and landing page.

“vinyl fence installation”, “wood privacy fence”, “aluminum pool fence”, “chain link fence” and “commercial fencing”. Materials have different price points and buyers.

03

Price & Research Searches

People comparing costs and options. Valuable when your ads and pages answer their questions clearly, wasteful when they lead to a generic homepage.

“fence installation cost per foot” and “vinyl vs wood fence”. Per-foot ranges and financing help.

04

Comparison & Brand Searches

Searches for reviews, “best” lists and specific providers, including your own business name, which competitors may already be bidding on.

“best fence company near me” and your brand.

Costs & benchmarks

What Google Ads Costs for Fence Companies

Clicks in some industries look expensive until you compare them with what a new customer is worth. These are the numbers I look at before recommending a budget.

Typical cost per click

About $8.33
WordStream’s 2026 search benchmarks put the median for Home & Home Improvement at $8.33 per click. Spring fence terms rise in cost as demand peaks.

Typical cost per lead

About $91
The same 2026 data puts the median cost per lead for that category at $90.92. Full-yard installations are worth far more than repairs.

Value of one new customer

$3,000–$15,000+
Most residential installations run several thousand dollars, with large or premium fences reaching five figures.

How I Work Out a Profitable Cost per Click

The real question is not whether clicks are expensive. It is how much you can afford to pay for a click and still make money. I start with three numbers: what a new customer is worth, how many leads turn into customers, and how many clicks turn into leads. Multiply them together and you get a break-even cost per click, which tells us which keywords are worth buying and which ones are not.

Illustrative example: with a $5,000 average job, 30% of estimates won and 8% of clicks booking estimates, each click is worth $5,000 × 0.30 × 0.08 = $120 at break-even.

Campaign structure

The Google Ads Structure I Build for Fence Companies

A good account is built around how your homeowners search and how your business makes money, not around a one-size-fits-all template.

01

Search Campaigns Built Around Services

Each high-value service gets its own campaign or ad group, its own ads and its own landing page, so budget follows the services that make you money and you can see exactly what each one costs.

Separate campaigns for wood, vinyl, aluminum, chain link, pool and commercial fencing, plus repair, with seasonal budgets.

02

Local Services Ads Where You Qualify

For many home-service and professional categories, Google shows Local Services Ads with a Google Guaranteed or Google Screened badge above regular ads, charged per lead instead of per click. When you qualify, I plan them alongside Search rather than instead of it.

Fencing is available in Local Services Ads in many markets with the Google Guaranteed badge. Search covers specific materials and commercial work.

03

Call-First Ads & Map Visibility

For businesses where customers prefer to phone, I prioritize call assets, call-only formats where they fit, location assets and accurate business hours, so ads only push calls when someone can answer.

04

Remarketing & Automated Campaigns, Used Carefully

Remarketing and Performance Max can help, but only once conversion tracking is reliable and the basics are profitable. Otherwise they spend quickly on low-quality traffic.

Keywords

Keywords I Target for Fence Companies, and the Ones I Block

Choosing what not to pay for is just as important as choosing what to bid on. Negative keywords are added on day one, not after the budget is gone.

High-Intent Keywords I Prioritize

Searches that show a real need, a specific service and a location are usually where profitable campaigns start.

  • fence company + city
  • fence installation
  • vinyl fence installation
  • wood privacy fence
  • aluminum fence
  • chain link fence installation
  • pool fence
  • fence repair
  • commercial fencing contractor
  • gate installation

Negative Keywords I Add From Day One

Job seekers, DIY researchers, students and people looking for free help can drain a budget without producing a single customer.

  • fence jobs and installer salary
  • DIY fence building
  • fence panels and posts for sale
  • fence paint and stain
  • electric dog fence products
  • fencing sport and lessons
  • invisible fence products
  • fence calculators
  • fence permit rules only
  • free fence

Ads & landing pages

Ad Copy and Landing Pages That Convert for Fence Companies

Fence projects are planned purchases where customers compare materials, prices and timelines. Ads should qualify by material and property type.

Ad messages that work

  • Material ads: wood, vinyl, aluminum and chain link, each with its own messaging.
  • Purpose: privacy, pool safety and pet fencing, which match how people describe their needs.
  • Commercial fencing: separate campaigns for business and industrial customers.
  • Permits and HOA: help with permits and HOA approval.

What the landing page needs

  • Material options with price ranges per foot.
  • A gallery of local installs.
  • Free estimate form.
  • Permit and HOA information.

Common mistakes

Google Ads Mistakes I See Fence Companies Make Most Often

When I audit Fence Companies accounts, the same few problems usually explain most of the wasted spend.

  • Paying for material shoppers. Many want to buy panels, not installation.
  • No seasonal planning. Spring demand needs early budget.
  • Same bids for repairs and installs. Values differ.
  • No photos or styles. Fence buyers compare looks.
  • Ignoring HOA and permit questions. Answering them builds trust.
  • Not tracking won estimates. Optimize for installations.

Policies & trust

Compliance, Policies & Trust Signals for Fence Companies

Some industries face Google Ads policy restrictions, advertiser verification or professional advertising rules. Getting this wrong can mean disapproved ads, limited reach or a suspended account.

Rules That Affect Your Ads

Fencing is not restricted. Contractor licensing varies by state, and pool fences must meet local safety codes, which should be reflected accurately in ads.

Trust Signals Homeowners Look For

Licensing, insurance, warranties, reviews, style galleries, permit and HOA help, and free estimates.

Seasonality

When Homeowners Search, and How Budgets Should Follow

Demand for most industries rises and falls through the year. A flat monthly budget usually overspends in quiet months and runs out when demand is highest.

Spring and early summer are peak fence seasons, with storms creating repair demand and fall offering a second installation window.

Measurement

What I Track for Fence Companies, Beyond Clicks

Clicks and impressions do not pay the bills. I set up tracking so you can see which campaigns and keywords produce real homeowners.

01

Qualified Calls

Calls from ads are tracked by duration and source, so short and accidental calls are not counted as leads.

02

Forms & Bookings

Form submissions and online bookings are tracked as conversions, separated from page views and button clicks.

03

Real Business Outcomes

Where possible, leads are matched to jobs, appointments or sales, so bidding can learn from the leads that actually become customers.

Estimates booked and installations sold, synced from software such as Jobber or FenceCloud where possible.
