Case studies
A closer look at three client campaigns: where they started, what I changed, and what the numbers looked like afterwards.
Coach · Online course
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This coach needed to sell an online course and grow his personal brand. I built a conversion-focused funnel and ran strategic ads to it, turning a $2,773.25 investment into $15,267.29 in sales.
Non-profit · Fundraising
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This non-profit was losing money on its fundraising ads when they brought me in. In the first month, $970 in ad spend raised $6,422, and the wider fundraising effort went on to generate more than $600K that year.
High-ticket services
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This business sells high-ticket services and products. I rebuilt the ad strategy around stronger creatives and smarter retargeting, then tightened spend and targeting, turning $2.9K into $20,472.10 in revenue.
Local market
Advertising conditions are not identical across Delaware. Businesses competing in a major metropolitan area can face a different paid-search environment from companies serving smaller cities, suburban markets, or rural areas. The strategy should reflect those differences rather than treating an entire state as one uniform advertising market.
Delaware has about 1.06 million residents and grew quickly after 2020, largely through retirees and families moving to Sussex County. The state is small enough to cross in under two hours, but its three counties behave like very different markets.
New Castle County in the north is part of the Philadelphia metro and has a large financial services and corporate presence, partly because so many companies are incorporated in Delaware. Kent County around Dover is anchored by government, healthcare and Dover Air Force Base, while Sussex County combines beach tourism with some of the fastest residential growth in the region.
Delaware also has no state sales tax, which attracts shoppers from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland for big-ticket purchases.
I don’t have an office in every Delaware city, and I won’t pretend to.
What I bring is a campaign structure that treats Wilmington, Dover, Rehoboth Beach and smaller markets as separate decisions, each with its own bids, budgets, location settings and search terms.
Businesses operating in major metro areas often face greater advertiser density because more companies are competing for the same high-intent searches.
Smaller markets may have different challenges.
Search volume can be lower, service areas can be larger, and campaigns may need to balance efficient geographic coverage with enough search demand to produce useful data.
The correct strategy depends on the market.
That is why statewide Google Ads management should analyze performance geographically instead of assuming every city deserves the same investment.
What gets in the way
These are the issues I see most often when Delaware businesses come to me with an account that is spending money but not producing enough real customers.
A contractor in Wilmington competes with Philadelphia-area advertisers who include northern Delaware in their coverage. The same contractor targeting western Sussex County may see far fewer competitors, but much smaller search volume outside the beach season.
A company may technically serve all of Delaware while still having areas where customers are more valuable, easier to reach, or operationally practical.
Campaigns can be segmented around:
The beach towns of Rehoboth, Lewes, Dewey and Bethany see a huge summer surge in visitors, rentals and restaurant searches, while year-round residents drive steady demand for home services and healthcare. Coastal storms and nor’easters create sudden roofing and water damage demand.
“emergency plumber near me”
“roof repair Wilmington”
“dentist in Dover”
“business attorney Rehoboth Beach”
often reveal significantly stronger commercial intent than broad informational queries.
A local Google Ads campaign should be built around that distinction.
City by city
Each major Delaware market has its own competition, customer behavior and seasonality. Here is how I think about four of them.
Wilmington and the surrounding suburbs are part of Greater Philadelphia, with a strong base of banking, credit card companies, corporate law and chemical industry employers.
Competition is significant because Pennsylvania and New Jersey advertisers target the same area. Campaigns here benefit from separating Delaware-only services from regional ones and from ad copy that highlights local presence.
Dover is the state capital and home to Dover Air Force Base, with an economy built on government, healthcare and agriculture.
Competition is lower than in the north, and many customers are military families who move frequently and rely heavily on search. Mobile-first landing pages and clear, fast contact options are especially effective here.
Rehoboth, Lewes and the surrounding beach communities combine summer tourism with rapid retirement-driven growth. New housing developments create demand for home services, landscaping, healthcare and real estate.
Campaigns should separate tourism demand from local homeowner demand, scale budgets for summer, and target retirees and second-home buyers searching from out of state.
Georgetown, Seaford and Millsboro are more rural and agricultural, with a large poultry industry and growing residential development.
Search volume is limited, so campaigns should be simple and well tracked, often combined with nearby Maryland towns if the business serves them.
I can also help businesses targeting customers outside Delaware’s largest metro areas, in markets such as Newark, Middletown, Smyrna, Milford, Seaford and Georgetown.
A smaller market does not automatically mean an easier campaign.
Lower search volume, larger service territories, and fewer daily conversion opportunities can make good targeting and measurement even more important.
Delaware campaign plan
Delaware is small enough that many businesses serve the whole state, but it sits inside the Philadelphia market in the north and the beach-resort economy in the south. Those two halves need different messages and budgets.
Industry strategy
Some industries consistently show strong paid-search demand in Delaware, shaped by corporate and financial employers, tax-free retail and fast-growing coastal communities. Here is how I approach the most common ones.
Delaware’s role as a corporate home for many companies supports law firms, registered agents, accountants, banks and business service providers that serve clients nationwide.
What I focus on: national targeting where appropriate, precise keywords around incorporation and corporate services, exclusion of free-information searches, and tracking qualified consultations.
Rapid growth in Sussex County has created demand for builders, real estate agents, landscapers, home inspectors and services for new homeowners, many of them retirees moving from nearby states.
What I focus on: reaching people searching about Delaware from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and New York, ad copy that addresses relocation questions, and tracking qualified inquiries.
Delaware’s beaches attract visitors from the entire Mid-Atlantic, supporting rentals, restaurants, bike and boat rentals and attractions.
What I focus on: targeting nearby metros such as Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia, starting campaigns early for summer planning, and measuring direct bookings.

Questions
Competition varies significantly by industry and location.
Northern Delaware is the most competitive part of the state because it overlaps with the Philadelphia market. Coastal Sussex County is competitive in summer for tourism and real estate, while Kent County and western Sussex usually have fewer advertisers.
A statewide average can hide major differences between markets.
That is why I prefer evaluating the actual keywords, cities, services, and competitors relevant to your business.
In Delaware I see consistent Google Ads demand from law firms and corporate service providers, financial advisers, builders and real estate agents, HVAC and roofing contractors, healthcare practices and beach tourism businesses.
They share high-value customers and buyers who search with clear intent.
That depends on where customers are located and where your business can realistically serve them.
For some businesses, statewide targeting makes sense.
For others, separating Wilmington, Dover, and other priority areas provides better budget control.
They can be, especially when a larger number of advertisers compete for the same commercial searches.
However, cost per click alone does not determine profitability.
A more expensive market can still make sense if:
Yes.
Smaller markets can still contain strong commercial search demand.
The campaign may simply need a different strategy around:
