Case studies
A closer look at three client campaigns: where they started, what I changed, and what the numbers looked like afterwards.
Coach · Online course
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This coach needed to sell an online course and grow his personal brand. I built a conversion-focused funnel and ran strategic ads to it, turning a $2,773.25 investment into $15,267.29 in sales.
Non-profit · Fundraising
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This non-profit was losing money on its fundraising ads when they brought me in. In the first month, $970 in ad spend raised $6,422, and the wider fundraising effort went on to generate more than $600K that year.
High-ticket services
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This business sells high-ticket services and products. I rebuilt the ad strategy around stronger creatives and smarter retargeting, then tightened spend and targeting, turning $2.9K into $20,472.10 in revenue.
Local market
Advertising conditions are not identical across Oregon. Businesses competing in a major metropolitan area can face a different paid-search environment from companies serving smaller cities, suburban markets, or rural areas. The strategy should reflect those differences rather than treating an entire state as one uniform advertising market.
Oregon has about 4.27 million residents, and the Portland metro, which extends into southwest Washington, is the largest market with roughly 2.5 million people. Salem, Eugene, Bend and Medford serve their own regions, while eastern Oregon is largely rural.
The economy includes technology and semiconductors, athletic apparel, forestry, agriculture, wine and tourism. Bend has become one of the fastest-growing cities in the state, driven by outdoor recreation and remote workers.
For advertisers, Portland is competitive, and businesses must decide whether to include Washington customers across the Columbia River.
I work with Oregon businesses remotely rather than from a local storefront.
The point is simple: a search in Portland and a search in Bend can deserve different bids, budgets and messages, and the account should be built to reflect that.
Businesses operating in major metro areas often face greater advertiser density because more companies are competing for the same high-intent searches.
Smaller markets may have different challenges.
Search volume can be lower, service areas can be larger, and campaigns may need to balance efficient geographic coverage with enough search demand to produce useful data.
The correct strategy depends on the market.
That is why statewide Google Ads management should analyze performance geographically instead of assuming every city deserves the same investment.
What gets in the way
Most underperforming Oregon campaigns I audit struggle with some combination of the following.
A home-service company in Portland competes with advertisers from both Oregon and Vancouver, Washington. The same company in eastern Oregon faces little competition but limited search volume.
A company may technically serve all of Oregon while still having areas where customers are more valuable, easier to reach, or operationally practical.
Campaigns can be segmented around:
Western Oregon’s rainy winters drive roofing, gutter and drainage demand, while summers are dry with wildfire risk. Bend and the mountains see ski and summer tourism.
“emergency plumber near me”
“roof repair Portland”
“dentist in Eugene”
“business attorney Bend”
often reveal significantly stronger commercial intent than broad informational queries.
A local Google Ads campaign should be built around that distinction.
City by city
A closer look at the Oregon markets where most local search demand is concentrated.
Portland and suburbs such as Beaverton, Hillsboro and Lake Oswego form the largest market.
Campaigns should decide whether to include Washington and split by suburb.
Eugene is home to the University of Oregon and a strong outdoor culture.
Demand follows the academic calendar.
Bend has grown rapidly with outdoor recreation and remote workers.
New residents drive home services and real estate.
Salem, the state capital, and Medford in southern Oregon serve regional markets.
Competition is moderate, and local reputation matters.
I can also help businesses targeting customers outside Oregon’s largest metro areas, in markets such as Corvallis, Grants Pass, Klamath Falls, Pendleton, Astoria and Hood River.
A smaller market does not automatically mean an easier campaign.
Lower search volume, larger service territories, and fewer daily conversion opportunities can make good targeting and measurement even more important.
Oregon campaign plan
Oregon is on Pacific Time, except most of Malheur County (Ontario) on the Idaho border, which uses Mountain Time. Portland dominates volume, and its metro crosses the Columbia River into Washington.
Industry strategy
Paid-search demand in Oregon follows the local economy: rainy winters, outdoor recreation and a diverse economy. Here is how I approach the industries that benefit most.
Rainy winters create demand for roofing, moss removal and gutters.
What I focus on: seasonal budgets and tracking estimates.
Willamette Valley wineries and coastal towns attract visitors.
What I focus on: targeting trip planners and booking tracking.
Bend and Mount Hood support outdoor gear, guides and rentals.
What I focus on: seasonal campaigns and sales tracking.

Questions
Competition varies significantly by industry and location.
The Portland metro is the most competitive part of Oregon, followed by Bend and Eugene. Eastern Oregon has few advertisers.
A statewide average can hide major differences between markets.
That is why I prefer evaluating the actual keywords, cities, services, and competitors relevant to your business.
In Oregon I see consistent Google Ads demand from roofing and HVAC contractors, home builders, law firms, healthcare practices, wineries and outdoor businesses.
They benefit because their customers search with clear needs.
That depends on where customers are located and where your business can realistically serve them.
For some businesses, statewide targeting makes sense.
For others, separating Portland, Eugene, and other priority areas provides better budget control.
They can be, especially when a larger number of advertisers compete for the same commercial searches.
However, cost per click alone does not determine profitability.
A more expensive market can still make sense if:
Yes.
Smaller markets can still contain strong commercial search demand.
The campaign may simply need a different strategy around:

Office & service area
I run Google Ads for businesses in Oregon from my office in Washington, DC. Campaigns are geo-targeted to the cities, ZIP codes and radius you actually serve in Oregon, so local searchers see your ads and out-of-area clicks are excluded. We work over video calls, WhatsApp and email, with the same account access and reporting wherever you are.
