Case studies
A closer look at three client campaigns: where they started, what I changed, and what the numbers looked like afterwards.
Coach · Online course
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This coach needed to sell an online course and grow his personal brand. I built a conversion-focused funnel and ran strategic ads to it, turning a $2,773.25 investment into $15,267.29 in sales.
Non-profit · Fundraising
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This non-profit was losing money on its fundraising ads when they brought me in. In the first month, $970 in ad spend raised $6,422, and the wider fundraising effort went on to generate more than $600K that year.
High-ticket services
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This business sells high-ticket services and products. I rebuilt the ad strategy around stronger creatives and smarter retargeting, then tightened spend and targeting, turning $2.9K into $20,472.10 in revenue.
Local market
Advertising conditions are not identical across Washington. Businesses competing in a major metropolitan area can face a different paid-search environment from companies serving smaller cities, suburban markets, or rural areas. The strategy should reflect those differences rather than treating an entire state as one uniform advertising market.
Washington has about 8 million residents, and the Seattle metro, including Tacoma and Everett, is home to more than 4 million of them. The Cascade Mountains divide the state into a rainy, urban west and a drier, more agricultural east, where Spokane and the Tri-Cities are the main markets.
Seattle is a global technology center, with major software, e-commerce and cloud companies, along with aerospace, healthcare and the ports. High incomes and high housing costs create demand for premium services, but also intense competition.
Washington has no state income tax, which affects business and residential migration patterns.
I don’t have an office in every Washington city, and I won’t pretend to.
What I bring is a campaign structure that treats Seattle, Spokane, Tacoma and smaller markets as separate decisions, each with its own bids, budgets, location settings and search terms.
Businesses operating in major metro areas often face greater advertiser density because more companies are competing for the same high-intent searches.
Smaller markets may have different challenges.
Search volume can be lower, service areas can be larger, and campaigns may need to balance efficient geographic coverage with enough search demand to produce useful data.
The correct strategy depends on the market.
That is why statewide Google Ads management should analyze performance geographically instead of assuming every city deserves the same investment.
What gets in the way
These are the issues I see most often when Washington businesses come to me with an account that is spending money but not producing enough real customers.
A home-service company in the Seattle area competes with many advertisers and high costs per click. The same company in eastern Washington faces fewer competitors and lower costs.
A company may technically serve all of Washington while still having areas where customers are more valuable, easier to reach, or operationally practical.
Campaigns can be segmented around:
Western Washington’s rainy winters drive roofing and drainage demand, while summers are dry and increasingly hot, with wildfire smoke in some years. Eastern Washington has colder winters and hot summers.
“emergency plumber near me”
“roof repair Seattle”
“dentist in Spokane”
“business attorney Tacoma”
often reveal significantly stronger commercial intent than broad informational queries.
A local Google Ads campaign should be built around that distinction.
City by city
Each major Washington market has its own competition, customer behavior and seasonality. Here is how I think about four of them.
Seattle, Bellevue, Redmond and Kirkland form a high-income tech-driven market.
Competition is intense, so campaigns need tight targeting and strong differentiation.
Tacoma and nearby communities combine the port, Joint Base Lewis-McChord and more affordable housing.
Military families rely on search, and costs are lower than in Seattle.
Spokane is the hub of eastern Washington and North Idaho.
Businesses should decide whether to include Idaho searches.
Kennewick, Pasco and Richland combine agriculture, wine and energy.
Hot summers drive AC demand, and agriculture supports B2B services.
I can also help businesses targeting customers outside Washington’s largest metro areas, in markets such as Vancouver, Bellingham, Yakima, Wenatchee, Olympia and Walla Walla.
A smaller market does not automatically mean an easier campaign.
Lower search volume, larger service territories, and fewer daily conversion opportunities can make good targeting and measurement even more important.
Washington campaign plan
Washington is on Pacific Time, and the Cascades split it into two very different markets: the wet, dense Puget Sound region and the drier, more rural east.
Industry strategy
Some industries consistently show strong paid-search demand in Washington, shaped by technology employers, rainy western winters and agriculture in the east. Here is how I approach the most common ones.
Seattle’s tech sector supports software and service providers.
What I focus on: B2B keywords, exclusion of job seekers, and pipeline tracking.
Rain drives demand for roofing, moss removal and gutters.
What I focus on: seasonal budgets and estimate tracking.
Eastern Washington’s farms and wineries support agricultural services and tourism.
What I focus on: niche keywords and booking tracking.

Questions
Competition varies significantly by industry and location.
The Seattle metro is the most competitive part of Washington, followed by Tacoma and Vancouver. Eastern Washington is less competitive.
A statewide average can hide major differences between markets.
That is why I prefer evaluating the actual keywords, cities, services, and competitors relevant to your business.
In Washington I see consistent Google Ads demand from roofing and HVAC contractors, law firms, healthcare practices, technology companies, real estate agents and wineries.
They benefit because their customers search with clear needs.
That depends on where customers are located and where your business can realistically serve them.
For some businesses, statewide targeting makes sense.
For others, separating Seattle, Spokane, and other priority areas provides better budget control.
They can be, especially when a larger number of advertisers compete for the same commercial searches.
However, cost per click alone does not determine profitability.
A more expensive market can still make sense if:
Yes.
Smaller markets can still contain strong commercial search demand.
The campaign may simply need a different strategy around:

Office & service area
I run Google Ads for businesses in Washington State from my office in Washington, DC. Campaigns are geo-targeted to the cities, ZIP codes and radius you actually serve in Washington State, so local searchers see your ads and out-of-area clicks are excluded. We work over video calls, WhatsApp and email, with the same account access and reporting wherever you are.
