Search intent

How Parents Search for Daycare And Childcare Centers on Google

Not every search deserves the same bid. I separate Daycare and Childcare Centers searches by intent, because each type converts differently, costs differently and needs a different ad and landing page.

01

Urgent & Ready to Book

People who need help now. These usually deserve the highest bids, call-focused ads and ad schedules that match when you can actually answer the phone.

“daycare openings near me”, “infant daycare availability” and “emergency childcare”.

02

Specific Service Searches

Searches for one service or treatment. They are usually the best mix of volume, intent and customer value, so each one gets its own ad group and landing page.

“preschool near me”, “infant care”, “Montessori daycare”, “after school care” and “summer camp”.

03

Price & Research Searches

People comparing costs and options. Valuable when your ads and pages answer their questions clearly, wasteful when they lead to a generic homepage.

“daycare cost” and “childcare subsidies”. Tuition info and tour offers convert.

04

Comparison & Brand Searches

Searches for reviews, “best” lists and specific providers, including your own business name, which competitors may already be bidding on.

National childcare chains and your center name.

Costs & benchmarks

What Google Ads Costs for Daycare And Childcare Centers

Clicks in some industries look expensive until you compare them with what a new customer is worth. These are the numbers I look at before recommending a budget.

Typical cost per click

About $4.81
WordStream’s 2026 search benchmarks put the median for Education & Instruction at $4.81 per click. Infant care terms are highly competitive.

Typical cost per lead

About $77
The same 2026 data puts the median cost per lead for that category at $77.48. Each enrolled child is worth thousands per year.

Value of one new customer

$8,000–$20,000+ per year
Full-time care for one child is commonly several hundred dollars or more per week.

How I Work Out a Profitable Cost per Click

The real question is not whether clicks are expensive. It is how much you can afford to pay for a click and still make money. I start with three numbers: what a new customer is worth, how many leads turn into customers, and how many clicks turn into leads. Multiply them together and you get a break-even cost per click, which tells us which keywords are worth buying and which ones are not.

Illustrative example: if an enrollment is worth $12,000 a year, 30% of tours enroll and 5% of clicks book tours, each click is worth $12,000 × 0.30 × 0.05 = $180 at break-even.

Campaign structure

The Google Ads Structure I Build for Daycare And Childcare Centers

A good account is built around how your parents search and how your business makes money, not around a one-size-fits-all template.

01

Search Campaigns Built Around Services

Each high-value service gets its own campaign or ad group, its own ads and its own landing page, so budget follows the services that make you money and you can see exactly what each one costs.

Separate campaigns for infant, toddler, preschool, after-school and summer programs, with tour booking.

02

Local Services Ads Where You Qualify

For many home-service and professional categories, Google shows Local Services Ads with a Google Guaranteed or Google Screened badge above regular ads, charged per lead instead of per click. When you qualify, I plan them alongside Search rather than instead of it.

Search with tour booking and location assets leads.

03

Call-First Ads & Map Visibility

For businesses where customers prefer to phone, I prioritize call assets, call-only formats where they fit, location assets and accurate business hours, so ads only push calls when someone can answer.

04

Remarketing & Automated Campaigns, Used Carefully

Remarketing and Performance Max can help, but only once conversion tracking is reliable and the basics are profitable. Otherwise they spend quickly on low-quality traffic.

Keywords

Keywords I Target for Daycare And Childcare Centers, and the Ones I Block

Choosing what not to pay for is just as important as choosing what to bid on. Negative keywords are added on day one, not after the budget is gone.

High-Intent Keywords I Prioritize

Searches that show a real need, a specific service and a location are usually where profitable campaigns start.

  • daycare + city
  • daycare near me
  • infant daycare
  • preschool near me
  • Montessori school
  • after school program
  • summer camp for kids
  • childcare center
  • pre-K program
  • daycare with openings

Negative Keywords I Add From Day One

Job seekers, DIY researchers, students and people looking for free help can drain a budget without producing a single customer.

  • daycare jobs and teacher hiring
  • CDA certification
  • home daycare license
  • daycare supplies
  • free daycare (if not offered)
  • dog daycare
  • adult daycare
  • babysitting apps
  • daycare software
  • nanny agencies

Ads & landing pages

Ad Copy and Landing Pages That Convert for Daycare & Childcare Centers

Parents choosing childcare care most about safety, staff and availability. Tours are the main conversion.

Ad messages that work

  • Age groups: infant, toddler and preschool.
  • Safety: licensing and staff qualifications.
  • Availability: openings now.
  • Curriculum: learning approach.

What the landing page needs

  • A tour booking form.
  • Licensing information.
  • Staff profiles.
  • Tuition information.

Common mistakes

Google Ads Mistakes I See Daycare And Childcare Centers Make Most Often

When I audit Daycare and Childcare Centers accounts, the same few problems usually explain most of the wasted spend.

  • Paying for dog and adult daycare searches. “Daycare” needs negatives.
  • No tour offer. Tours drive enrollments.
  • Hiding availability. Openings are the first question.
  • Wide radius. Parents choose near home or work.
  • No safety messaging. Licensing and safety build trust.
  • Tracking forms, not enrollments. Optimize for enrollments.

Policies & trust

Compliance, Policies & Trust Signals for Daycare And Childcare Centers

Some industries face Google Ads policy restrictions, advertiser verification or professional advertising rules. Getting this wrong can mean disapproved ads, limited reach or a suspended account.

Rules That Affect Your Ads

Childcare ads target parents, not children, and must not use personalized targeting of minors. Centers are state-licensed, and license information should be shown where required.

Trust Signals Parents Look For

State licensing, staff ratios and credentials, safety practices, curriculum and parent reviews.

Seasonality

When Parents Search, and How Budgets Should Follow

Demand for most industries rises and falls through the year. A flat monthly budget usually overspends in quiet months and runs out when demand is highest.

Spring enrollment for fall, January openings and summer camp registration drive peaks.

Measurement

What I Track for Daycare And Childcare Centers, Beyond Clicks

Clicks and impressions do not pay the bills. I set up tracking so you can see which campaigns and keywords produce real parents.

01

Qualified Calls

Calls from ads are tracked by duration and source, so short and accidental calls are not counted as leads.

02

Forms & Bookings

Form submissions and online bookings are tracked as conversions, separated from page views and button clicks.

03

Real Business Outcomes

Where possible, leads are matched to jobs, appointments or sales, so bidding can learn from the leads that actually become customers.

Tours booked and enrollments, synced from systems such as Brightwheel or Procare where possible.
