Case studies
A closer look at three client campaigns: where they started, what I changed, and what the numbers looked like afterwards.
Coach · Online course
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This coach needed to sell an online course and grow his personal brand. I built a conversion-focused funnel and ran strategic ads to it, turning a $2,773.25 investment into $15,267.29 in sales.
Non-profit · Fundraising
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This non-profit was losing money on its fundraising ads when they brought me in. In the first month, $970 in ad spend raised $6,422, and the wider fundraising effort went on to generate more than $600K that year.
High-ticket services
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This business sells high-ticket services and products. I rebuilt the ad strategy around stronger creatives and smarter retargeting, then tightened spend and targeting, turning $2.9K into $20,472.10 in revenue.
Local market
Advertising conditions are not identical across Colorado. Businesses competing in a major metropolitan area can face a different paid-search environment from companies serving smaller cities, suburban markets, or rural areas. The strategy should reflect those differences rather than treating an entire state as one uniform advertising market.
Colorado has about 6.01 million residents, and most of them live along the Front Range, from Fort Collins through Denver to Colorado Springs and Pueblo. The Denver metro has roughly 3 million people.
The economy includes technology, aerospace, energy, tourism, outdoor recreation and a large military presence. Mountain resort towns such as Vail, Aspen and Breckenridge have their own economies driven by skiing and second homes.
For advertisers, the Front Range is competitive, while mountain towns and the Eastern Plains are smaller and more seasonal.
I don’t have an office in every Colorado city, and I won’t pretend to.
What I bring is a campaign structure that treats Denver, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins and smaller markets as separate decisions, each with its own bids, budgets, location settings and search terms.
Businesses operating in major metro areas often face greater advertiser density because more companies are competing for the same high-intent searches.
Smaller markets may have different challenges.
Search volume can be lower, service areas can be larger, and campaigns may need to balance efficient geographic coverage with enough search demand to produce useful data.
The correct strategy depends on the market.
That is why statewide Google Ads management should analyze performance geographically instead of assuming every city deserves the same investment.
What gets in the way
These are the issues I see most often when Colorado businesses come to me with an account that is spending money but not producing enough real customers.
A home-service company in the Denver suburbs competes with many active advertisers, while a company in a mountain town may face seasonal competition from tourism businesses. The Eastern Plains have few advertisers.
A company may technically serve all of Colorado while still having areas where customers are more valuable, easier to reach, or operationally practical.
Campaigns can be segmented around:
Colorado sees hail storms on the Front Range in late spring and summer, driving roofing demand, heavy snow in winter, and ski season in the mountains from November through April.
“emergency plumber near me”
“roof repair Denver”
“dentist in Colorado Springs”
“business attorney Fort Collins”
often reveal significantly stronger commercial intent than broad informational queries.
A local Google Ads campaign should be built around that distinction.
City by city
Each major Colorado market has its own competition, customer behavior and seasonality. Here is how I think about four of them.
Denver and suburbs such as Aurora, Lakewood, Littleton and Highlands Ranch form a large, fast-growing market.
Campaigns should split by suburb, and roofing, HVAC and real estate are especially competitive.
Colorado Springs has a large military and aerospace presence, along with tourism.
Military families rely heavily on search, and competition is lower than in Denver.
Fort Collins and Loveland combine Colorado State University and a fast-growing population.
Demand follows the academic calendar, and new housing drives home services.
Vail, Aspen, Breckenridge and Steamboat Springs depend on skiing and second homes.
Campaigns should target visitors and second-home owners, with seasonal budgets.
I can also help businesses targeting customers outside Colorado’s largest metro areas, in markets such as Pueblo, Grand Junction, Greeley, Durango, Boulder and Glenwood Springs.
A smaller market does not automatically mean an easier campaign.
Lower search volume, larger service territories, and fewer daily conversion opportunities can make good targeting and measurement even more important.
Colorado campaign plan
Colorado is one time zone (Mountain), but its population is concentrated along the Front Range, and mountain towns behave like a completely different market with tourist-driven seasons.
Industry strategy
Some industries consistently show strong paid-search demand in Colorado, shaped by Front Range growth, hail storms and mountain tourism. Here is how I approach the most common ones.
The Front Range sees some of the most frequent hail storms in the country.
What I focus on: storm-responsive budgets, trust-building ad copy, and tracking inspections.
Ski resorts, lodging and outdoor guides compete for visitors.
What I focus on: targeting trip planners, seasonal budgets, and direct booking tracking.
Outdoor gear, bike shops and adventure companies serve a highly active population.
What I focus on: Shopping campaigns, seasonal budgets, and tracking sales.

Questions
Competition varies significantly by industry and location.
The Denver metro is the most competitive part of Colorado, followed by Colorado Springs and Fort Collins. Mountain towns are competitive in tourism, while the Eastern Plains have few advertisers.
A statewide average can hide major differences between markets.
That is why I prefer evaluating the actual keywords, cities, services, and competitors relevant to your business.
In Colorado I see consistent Google Ads demand from roofing and HVAC contractors, home builders, law firms, healthcare practices, ski and tourism businesses and outdoor retailers.
They benefit because their customers search with clear needs.
That depends on where customers are located and where your business can realistically serve them.
For some businesses, statewide targeting makes sense.
For others, separating Denver, Colorado Springs, and other priority areas provides better budget control.
They can be, especially when a larger number of advertisers compete for the same commercial searches.
However, cost per click alone does not determine profitability.
A more expensive market can still make sense if:
Yes.
Smaller markets can still contain strong commercial search demand.
The campaign may simply need a different strategy around:

Office & service area
I run Google Ads for businesses in Colorado from my office in Washington, DC. Campaigns are geo-targeted to the cities, ZIP codes and radius you actually serve in Colorado, so local searchers see your ads and out-of-area clicks are excluded. We work over video calls, WhatsApp and email, with the same account access and reporting wherever you are.
