Case studies
A closer look at three client campaigns: where they started, what I changed, and what the numbers looked like afterwards.
Coach · Online course
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This coach needed to sell an online course and grow his personal brand. I built a conversion-focused funnel and ran strategic ads to it, turning a $2,773.25 investment into $15,267.29 in sales.
Non-profit · Fundraising
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This non-profit was losing money on its fundraising ads when they brought me in. In the first month, $970 in ad spend raised $6,422, and the wider fundraising effort went on to generate more than $600K that year.
High-ticket services
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This business sells high-ticket services and products. I rebuilt the ad strategy around stronger creatives and smarter retargeting, then tightened spend and targeting, turning $2.9K into $20,472.10 in revenue.
Local market
Advertising conditions are not identical across New Mexico. Businesses competing in a major metropolitan area can face a different paid-search environment from companies serving smaller cities, suburban markets, or rural areas. The strategy should reflect those differences rather than treating an entire state as one uniform advertising market.
New Mexico has about 2.13 million residents, and the Albuquerque metro is the largest market, with roughly 900,000 people. Las Cruces, Santa Fe, Rio Rancho and Roswell serve their own regions, while much of the state is rural.
The economy includes government, national laboratories, military bases, energy production in the Permian Basin, tourism and a strong arts and culture sector in Santa Fe and Taos.
New Mexico also has a large Hispanic and Native American population, so bilingual and culturally aware advertising can make a meaningful difference.
This page is not a claim that I run a local office in New Mexico. I work remotely.
What matters is that Albuquerque, Las Cruces and the rest of the state are planned as different markets instead of one blended campaign, so you can see what each area actually returns.
Businesses operating in major metro areas often face greater advertiser density because more companies are competing for the same high-intent searches.
Smaller markets may have different challenges.
Search volume can be lower, service areas can be larger, and campaigns may need to balance efficient geographic coverage with enough search demand to produce useful data.
The correct strategy depends on the market.
That is why statewide Google Ads management should analyze performance geographically instead of assuming every city deserves the same investment.
What gets in the way
When I review New Mexico accounts, the same handful of problems tends to explain most of the wasted spend.
A home-service company in Albuquerque competes with most of the state’s active advertisers, while a company in rural New Mexico faces little competition but limited search volume.
A company may technically serve all of New Mexico while still having areas where customers are more valuable, easier to reach, or operationally practical.
Campaigns can be segmented around:
New Mexico has hot summers in the south, cold winters at higher elevations, and a summer monsoon season. Ski season and fall festivals drive tourism.
“emergency plumber near me”
“roof repair Albuquerque”
“dentist in Las Cruces”
“business attorney Santa Fe”
often reveal significantly stronger commercial intent than broad informational queries.
A local Google Ads campaign should be built around that distinction.
City by city
Four parts of New Mexico that show why one statewide campaign rarely fits every market:
Albuquerque combines government, Sandia National Laboratories, Kirtland Air Force Base and healthcare.
Bilingual campaigns and split targeting with Rio Rancho often help.
Las Cruces is home to New Mexico State University and shares a market with El Paso, Texas.
Businesses should decide whether to include Texas searches.
Santa Fe is a tourism and arts destination with high-value homes.
Premium home services and hospitality are especially active.
Hobbs, Carlsbad and Roswell are tied to oil and gas production in the Permian Basin.
Energy-sector B2B services have strong demand.
I can also help businesses targeting customers outside New Mexico’s largest metro areas, in markets such as Rio Rancho, Farmington, Roswell, Clovis, Taos and Gallup.
A smaller market does not automatically mean an easier campaign.
Lower search volume, larger service territories, and fewer daily conversion opportunities can make good targeting and measurement even more important.
New Mexico campaign plan
New Mexico is on Mountain Time, with lower average click costs than neighboring Arizona and Colorado. A large Spanish-speaking population makes bilingual campaigns worth testing for most consumer services.
Industry strategy
In New Mexico, government and research, energy production and tourism shape which industries get the most value from paid search. These are the ones I see most often.
The Permian Basin supports oilfield services and suppliers.
What I focus on: technical keywords, exclusion of job seekers, and RFQ tracking.
Santa Fe, Taos and cultural attractions draw visitors.
What I focus on: targeting trip planners and booking tracking.
Abundant sunshine supports solar installation.
What I focus on: lead qualification and appointment tracking.

Questions
Competition varies significantly by industry and location.
Albuquerque is the most competitive part of New Mexico, followed by Las Cruces and Santa Fe. Rural areas usually have few advertisers.
A statewide average can hide major differences between markets.
That is why I prefer evaluating the actual keywords, cities, services, and competitors relevant to your business.
In New Mexico I see consistent Google Ads demand from HVAC contractors, solar installers, law firms, healthcare practices, tourism businesses and energy-sector suppliers.
They benefit because their customers search with clear needs.
That depends on where customers are located and where your business can realistically serve them.
For some businesses, statewide targeting makes sense.
For others, separating Albuquerque, Las Cruces, and other priority areas provides better budget control.
They can be, especially when a larger number of advertisers compete for the same commercial searches.
However, cost per click alone does not determine profitability.
A more expensive market can still make sense if:
Yes.
Smaller markets can still contain strong commercial search demand.
The campaign may simply need a different strategy around:

Office & service area
I run Google Ads for businesses in New Mexico from my office in Washington, DC. Campaigns are geo-targeted to the cities, ZIP codes and radius you actually serve in New Mexico, so local searchers see your ads and out-of-area clicks are excluded. We work over video calls, WhatsApp and email, with the same account access and reporting wherever you are.
