Google Ads Expert · Plumbers
If you run a plumbing company, you do not need more clicks for the sake of clicks. You need the right customers to find you at the moment they are ready to call, book or request a quote, at a cost that makes financial sense.

Case studies
A closer look at three client campaigns: where they started, what I changed, and what the numbers looked like afterwards.
Coach · Online course
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This coach needed to sell an online course and grow his personal brand. I built a conversion-focused funnel and ran strategic ads to it, turning a $2,773.25 investment into $15,267.29 in sales.
Non-profit · Fundraising
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This non-profit was losing money on its fundraising ads when they brought me in. In the first month, $970 in ad spend raised $6,422, and the wider fundraising effort went on to generate more than $600K that year.
High-ticket services
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This business sells high-ticket services and products. I rebuilt the ad strategy around stronger creatives and smarter retargeting, then tightened spend and targeting, turning $2.9K into $20,472.10 in revenue.
Search intent
Not every search deserves the same bid. I separate Plumbers searches by intent, because each type converts differently, costs differently and needs a different ad and landing page.
People who need help now. These usually deserve the highest bids, call-focused ads and ad schedules that match when you can actually answer the phone.
“emergency plumber near me”, “24 hour plumber”, “burst pipe”, “clogged drain” and “water heater leaking”. These customers call the first plumber who looks trustworthy and available, so call-only and call-first ads, accurate hours and fast answering matter more than anything else.
Searches for one service or treatment. They are usually the best mix of volume, intent and customer value, so each one gets its own ad group and landing page.
“water heater replacement”, “tankless water heater installation”, “sewer line repair”, “repiping”, “drain cleaning” and “slab leak detection”. Water heaters, sewer lines and repipes are the high-ticket jobs, so they get separate ad groups and pages.
People comparing costs and options. Valuable when your ads and pages answer their questions clearly, wasteful when they lead to a generic homepage.
“water heater replacement cost”, “cost to repipe a house”, “sewer line replacement cost” and “tankless vs tank”. These are planned purchases; they convert when the page explains options, financing and a clear estimate offer.
Searches for reviews, “best” lists and specific providers, including your own business name, which competitors may already be bidding on.
“best plumber near me”, “licensed plumber reviews” and your company name. National franchises bid heavily on local plumbing terms and sometimes on competitor names, so brand protection is cheap insurance.
Costs & benchmarks
Clicks in some industries look expensive until you compare them with what a new customer is worth. These are the numbers I look at before recommending a budget.
About $8.33
WordStream’s 2026 search benchmarks put the median for Home & Home Improvement advertisers at $8.33 per click. Emergency plumbing terms in large metros are often much higher.
About $91
The 2026 home-services median cost per lead is $90.92. Drain and small repair leads are cheaper; water heater and sewer leads cost more but are worth far more.
$300–$15,000+
A drain call may be a few hundred dollars, a water heater a few thousand, and a sewer line or repipe can reach five figures. Bids should reflect which job the search is for.
The real question is not whether clicks are expensive. It is how much you can afford to pay for a click and still make money. I start with three numbers: what a new customer is worth, how many leads turn into customers, and how many clicks turn into leads. Multiply them together and you get a break-even cost per click, which tells us which keywords are worth buying and which ones are not.
Illustrative example: with an average ticket of $900, 50% of booked calls becoming paid jobs and 15% of clicks becoming booked calls, each click is worth $900 × 0.50 × 0.15 = $67.50 at break-even. Emergency and high-ticket terms can justify high bids; small “how to unclog” searches cannot.
Campaign structure
A good account is built around how your customers search and how your business makes money, not around a one-size-fits-all template.
Each high-value service gets its own campaign or ad group, its own ads and its own landing page, so budget follows the services that make you money and you can see exactly what each one costs.
Separate campaigns for emergency plumbing, drain cleaning, water heaters, sewer and main lines, leak detection and repiping, plus commercial plumbing if you offer it, each with schedules and budgets matched to crew capacity.
For many home-service and professional categories, Google shows Local Services Ads with a Google Guaranteed or Google Screened badge above regular ads, charged per lead instead of per click. When you qualify, I plan them alongside Search rather than instead of it.
Plumbing is a core Local Services Ads category with the Google Guaranteed badge, charged per lead. I use LSAs for broad “plumber near me” demand and Search for high-ticket jobs, emergency call ads and specific services where you need control.
For businesses where customers prefer to phone, I prioritize call assets, call-only formats where they fit, location assets and accurate business hours, so ads only push calls when someone can answer.
Remarketing and Performance Max can help, but only once conversion tracking is reliable and the basics are profitable. Otherwise they spend quickly on low-quality traffic.
Keywords
Choosing what not to pay for is just as important as choosing what to bid on. Negative keywords are added on day one, not after the budget is gone.
Searches that show a real need, a specific service and a location are usually where profitable campaigns start.
Job seekers, DIY researchers, students and people looking for free help can drain a budget without producing a single customer.
Ads & landing pages
Plumbing is one of the most urgent local searches. Many customers call the first credible plumber they see, so ad position, call setup and response speed often matter more than clever copy.
Common mistakes
When I audit Plumbers accounts, the same few problems usually explain most of the wasted spend.

Policies & trust
Some industries face Google Ads policy restrictions, advertiser verification or professional advertising rules. Getting this wrong can mean disapproved ads, limited reach or a suspended account.
Plumbing is not a restricted Google Ads category, but ads must avoid misleading pricing and “free” claims, and Local Services Ads require license and insurance verification. Many states and cities require a plumbing license number in advertising, so it should appear in ads and on pages where required.
Licensed and insured status with license number, upfront pricing, 24/7 availability, real reviews, background-checked technicians, warranties, and clear service areas. These belong in ad assets and at the top of every landing page.
Seasonality
Demand for most industries rises and falls through the year. A flat monthly budget usually overspends in quiet months and runs out when demand is highest.
Frozen and burst pipes drive winter spikes in colder states, holidays bring kitchen drain and water heater calls, and heavy rain brings sewer backups and sump pump problems. Emergency demand runs year-round, so I keep emergency campaigns always on and raise budgets during freezes and storms.
Measurement
Clicks and impressions do not pay the bills. I set up tracking so you can see which campaigns and keywords produce real customers.
Calls from ads are tracked by duration and source, so short and accidental calls are not counted as leads.
Form submissions and online bookings are tracked as conversions, separated from page views and button clicks.
Where possible, leads are matched to jobs, appointments or sales, so bidding can learn from the leads that actually become customers.
Booked jobs and job revenue, not raw calls. Calls are qualified by duration and outcome, and completed jobs are synced from field-service software such as ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro or Jobber where possible, so Google Ads learns from paying customers.

Where I work
Local markets differ in competition, seasonality and search behavior. Explore how I plan campaigns in these cities:
Questions
WordStream’s 2026 home-services benchmarks show a median of about $8.33 per click and $90.92 per lead. Emergency terms in large cities cost more. Many single-location plumbers start around $1,500–$6,000 a month.
Yes, when calls are answered quickly and high-ticket work such as water heaters and sewer lines is part of the mix. It struggles when every ad targets small drain calls or calls go to voicemail.
Emergency plumber, drain cleaning, water heater repair and replacement, sewer line, leak detection and repiping searches in your service area. Block jobs, DIY and supply searches from day one.
Both. LSAs capture broad “plumber near me” demand per lead, while Search gives control over emergency call ads and high-ticket services.
Emergency calls usually start within days. Expect 4–8 weeks to refine keywords and negatives and 2–3 months to stabilize cost per booked job.
Plumbing is not restricted, but pricing and “free” claims must be accurate, and many areas require license numbers in ads.
Calls are tracked by duration and outcome, forms and bookings separately, and completed jobs are imported from your field-service software where possible.
Yes. Each branch gets its own targeting, budget and landing pages with the right phone number and service area.
