Case studies
A closer look at three client campaigns: where they started, what I changed, and what the numbers looked like afterwards.
Coach · Online course
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This coach needed to sell an online course and grow his personal brand. I built a conversion-focused funnel and ran strategic ads to it, turning a $2,773.25 investment into $15,267.29 in sales.
Non-profit · Fundraising
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This non-profit was losing money on its fundraising ads when they brought me in. In the first month, $970 in ad spend raised $6,422, and the wider fundraising effort went on to generate more than $600K that year.
High-ticket services
Ad spend
→
Revenue
This business sells high-ticket services and products. I rebuilt the ad strategy around stronger creatives and smarter retargeting, then tightened spend and targeting, turning $2.9K into $20,472.10 in revenue.
Local market
Advertising conditions are not identical across Missouri. Businesses competing in a major metropolitan area can face a different paid-search environment from companies serving smaller cities, suburban markets, or rural areas. The strategy should reflect those differences rather than treating an entire state as one uniform advertising market.
Missouri has about 6.27 million residents and two major metros at opposite ends of the state: St. Louis in the east, with roughly 2.8 million people, and Kansas City in the west, with about 2.2 million. Both metros cross state lines, into Illinois and Kansas respectively.
Between them, Springfield, Columbia, Joplin and the Lake of the Ozarks serve large regions, and Branson is a major tourism destination. Healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, logistics and agriculture all play important roles.
For advertisers, the key decisions are often about state lines. A business in St. Louis or Kansas City must decide whether to target customers across the river or state line, and licensing and travel time should guide that choice.
You won’t find a fake local address here.
What a Missouri business gets from me is a structure where Kansas City, St. Louis and smaller markets are measured separately, so budget follows the areas that actually produce customers.
Businesses operating in major metro areas often face greater advertiser density because more companies are competing for the same high-intent searches.
Smaller markets may have different challenges.
Search volume can be lower, service areas can be larger, and campaigns may need to balance efficient geographic coverage with enough search demand to produce useful data.
The correct strategy depends on the market.
That is why statewide Google Ads management should analyze performance geographically instead of assuming every city deserves the same investment.
What gets in the way
Here is where Missouri advertisers most often lose money, and what usually fixes it.
A home-service company in the St. Louis or Kansas City suburbs competes with many advertisers from both sides of the state line. The same company in the Bootheel or northern Missouri will see far fewer competitors, but much less search volume.
A company may technically serve all of Missouri while still having areas where customers are more valuable, easier to reach, or operationally practical.
Campaigns can be segmented around:
Missouri sees severe spring storms, tornadoes and hail, hot, humid summers that drive AC demand, and cold snaps and ice storms in winter. The Lake of the Ozarks and Branson see tourism peaks in summer.
“emergency plumber near me”
“roof repair Kansas City”
“dentist in St. Louis”
“business attorney Springfield”
often reveal significantly stronger commercial intent than broad informational queries.
A local Google Ads campaign should be built around that distinction.
City by city
Here is how campaign strategy changes across four important Missouri markets.
Greater St. Louis includes the city, St. Louis County, St. Charles County and the Metro East in Illinois. Older brick homes in the city and inner suburbs need specialized roofing, masonry and plumbing.
Campaigns should split by county and decide deliberately whether to include Illinois. Healthcare, legal and home services are especially competitive.
The Missouri side of Kansas City, along with suburbs such as Lee’s Summit, Independence and Liberty, forms a large market that overlaps with the Kansas suburbs.
Businesses should decide whether to target Kansas, and campaigns split by suburb usually improve cost per lead.
Springfield is the hub of southwest Missouri, while Branson and the Lake of the Ozarks draw large numbers of visitors.
Campaigns should separate tourism from local services, and target visitors searching from nearby states.
Columbia, home to the University of Missouri and major hospitals, and Jefferson City, the state capital, form a central market.
Search volume is moderate, and demand in Columbia follows the academic calendar.
I can also help businesses targeting customers outside Missouri’s largest metro areas, in markets such as Joplin, Cape Girardeau, St. Joseph, Rolla, Sedalia and the Bootheel.
A smaller market does not automatically mean an easier campaign.
Lower search volume, larger service territories, and fewer daily conversion opportunities can make good targeting and measurement even more important.
Missouri campaign plan
Missouri is on Central Time, and its two largest metros each sit on a state line. St. Louis reaches into Illinois and Kansas City reaches into Kansas, so cross-border targeting is a decision on almost every account.
Industry strategy
Not every industry needs the same Google Ads strategy. In Missouri, two cross-border metros, severe weather and a strong tourism economy in the Ozarks make these categories especially active.
Hail and tornadoes make roofing and restoration highly active categories in Missouri.
What I focus on: storm-responsive budgets, trust-building ad copy, and tracking inspections.
The Lake of the Ozarks and Branson attract visitors for shows, lake recreation and vacations.
What I focus on: targeting travelers from nearby states, seasonal budgets, and tracking direct bookings.
Large health systems in St. Louis, Kansas City and Columbia compete with independent practices and specialists.
What I focus on: service-line campaigns, compliance with Google’s healthcare policies, and appointment tracking.

Questions
Competition varies significantly by industry and location.
St. Louis and Kansas City are the most competitive parts of Missouri, partly because they overlap with Illinois and Kansas. Springfield and Columbia are moderately competitive, while rural areas usually have fewer advertisers.
A statewide average can hide major differences between markets.
That is why I prefer evaluating the actual keywords, cities, services, and competitors relevant to your business.
In Missouri I see consistent Google Ads demand from roofing and HVAC contractors, law firms, healthcare practices, home builders, and lake and Branson tourism businesses.
They benefit because their customers search with urgent or high-value needs.
That depends on where customers are located and where your business can realistically serve them.
For some businesses, statewide targeting makes sense.
For others, separating Kansas City, St. Louis, and other priority areas provides better budget control.
They can be, especially when a larger number of advertisers compete for the same commercial searches.
However, cost per click alone does not determine profitability.
A more expensive market can still make sense if:
Yes.
Smaller markets can still contain strong commercial search demand.
The campaign may simply need a different strategy around:

Office & service area
I run Google Ads for businesses in Missouri from my office in Washington, DC. Campaigns are geo-targeted to the cities, ZIP codes and radius you actually serve in Missouri, so local searchers see your ads and out-of-area clicks are excluded. We work over video calls, WhatsApp and email, with the same account access and reporting wherever you are.
